North Memorial Employee Recruitment Kit

In 2004, I had the chance to work closely with the Human Resources department at North Memorial Health Care to redesign their Employee Recruitment Kit — a set of materials used at job fairs, interviews and other recruitment engagements.

Goals of the communication were to:

  • Emphasize the unique environment at North Memorial — employees say it just “feels different” at North Memorial. This kit needed to reflect that — verbally and visually.
  • Stand out in the crowd — Many employee recruitment kits look the same — a boring folder with a bunch of random sheets and brochures crammed into the pockets. This one needed to be different.
  • Be flexible — Each time the kit is used, it’s accompanied by different materials (information on benefits, information on specific opportunities, etc.).

The end result was a 9 x 12 custom diecut folder, that upon opening allowed a booklet and service area map to be immediately displayed — rather than buried in a heap of collateral. The left side featured a traditional folder slot for the various 8.5 x 11 inserts that would accompany the piece, as well as business card slits for recruiters. The booklet and map were designed to also serve as stand alone pieces for times when the entire kit is not appropriate or cost-effective.

The design featured North Memorial’s “vision artwork.” A series of paintings by artist, Raphael Lopez, that embody words from the organizations vision: Inspiring each other to give our patients and their families compassionate remarkable care.
